Treasure Trails are a fun, healthy and educational way to help you explore Devon’s hidden treats.
Solve either a murder mystery or find the location of hidden treasure! Great fun for all the family.
The trails cost £5 and are available to download from www.treasuretrails.co.uk

9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 March and 1 April - Tea Time Talks at Greenway

A series of tea time talks on interesting subjects such as the project leading up to the opening of Greenway,
the other Miller girl, Madge, Agatha Christies sister, High Cross House or The Garden House.
With speakers including Robyn Brown, project manager and now general manager of the National Trust English Riviera, and Elaine Ward, the portfolio's house and collections manager.

Each talk will be followed by tea and cake in the cosy house kitchen - £10.00 per person.

18 to 21 April - SLEUTHS! - Crime Writers Festival

The English Riviera presents its fourth festival of crime and thriller writing in the birthplace of the world’s most widely-read crime writer, Dame Agatha Christie.

Headlining the 2012 festival will be Colin Dexter, creator of the Inspector Morse novels. 2012 sees the 25th anniversary of the first television adaptation of Inspector Morse and it will be marked with a new one-off drama, Endeavour, featuring a younger Morse, played by Shaun Evans, in Oxford in 1965.

Also confirmed in the line up so far is Sophie Hannah, whose critically acclaimed psychological thrillers have recently been adapted for ITV drama. The first in the series, Case Sensitive, was screened earlier this year.

The festival will include further author talks, workshops and competitions.

19 to 21 April - Tuckers Maltings Beer festival - Newton Abbot

Organised by SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) South West Branch and held at the unique venue of
Tuckers Maltings. The Maltings Festival is now established as one of the premier beer festivals in the UK.

20 May - olympic torch relay

As part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Route, torchbearers will carry the Olympic Flame through Paignton and Torquay on Sunday 20 May. Paignton and Torquay are two of over 1,000 villages, towns and cities announced by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) through which the Olympic Flame will be carried by Torchbearers during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

28 May to 5 June - english wine week - Totnes

Art, Wine and Cheese at Sharpham - the perfect combination.

Throughout English Wine Week, Sharpham Vineyard in Devon will be converting their winery into an art gallery, displaying art from a raft of talent from local galleries. You can enjoy a tour and tasting of Sharpham's wines
and cheeses, then wander around the winery gallery. The Sharpham restaurant will be open for the season, serving delicious meals made from locally-sourced ingredients.

2 to 5 June - Queens jubilee events - Across the English Riviera

To mark 60 years of the Queen's reign the Diamond Jubilee will take place in 2012.
The English Riviera will be joining the rest of the UK in celebrating this wonderful jubilee
with a range of events for all the family to enjoy.

2 to 10 June - GEOPARK FESTIVAL - Across the English Riviera

The English Riviera is one of the world’s most fascinating geological and archaeological sites, celebrated and protected by UNESCO-recognised Geopark status and one of only 8 in the UK and Ireland.

The annual Geopark Festival offers holiday makers the chance to explore everything this very special area has to offer. There are events that will appeal to everyone, from artists to dedicated foodies. The Seashore Centre, Kents Cavern, Berry Head and Torquay Museum all have something going on for everyone during the festival, and at Occombe Farm there are exciting cookery classes available. Outdoor types might also like to explore the coastline through the Geopark Discovery Packages.

15 to 16 June - OCCOMBE FARM BEER FESTIVAL

Bring along a thirst for sampling from the best of the region’s beverages washed down with live bands and dancing in the farmyard as we celebrate Occombe’s 7th annual Beer Festival.

You’re sure to find something to tantalise your taste buds amongst the 60+ range of beers, local ciders, perry, wine and even Pimm’s on offer, accompanied by delicious local foods including a hog roast and BBQs. Occombe Beer Festival is a fundraising event run in aid of local conservation charity Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust.

15 to 24 June - Babbacombe Festival

The 6th annual Babbacombe Festival is a celebration of all that is great about Babbacombe and St Marychurch, with something for everyone. Babbacombe and St Marychurch is home to lots of great groups and organisations who put on a number of events throughout the Festival from taster sessions and competitions to exhibitions and fairs at various venues around the area. There's art, crafts, music, food, dancing, all kinds of sports and a huge amount of money is raised for local charities.

At the centre of it all is a fabulous marquee on Babbacombe Downs which plays host not only to lots of events during the day but also provides some spectacular evening entertainments.

17 to 24 June - english riviera open bowls tournament

Following on from the success of previous tournaments, we are delighted to welcome all competitors, their families and friends to the English Riviera. We are sure the prospect of playing on the greens overlooking the delightful settings of Torbay is one of the reasons many competitors attend year after year. Entries have already been good for this years event so we are looking forward to a full programme and a competitive Tournament.

23 June - armed forces day - Babbacombe Downs

24 June -  torbay half marathon

This will be the 21st running of this very popular seaside event. Demand for places has been steadily growing over the last few years so the race entry limit for 2012 will be 2500 runners. The race takes a traffic free two lap route which starts and finishes on Paignton seafront, taking in the stunning coastal views across Torbay. It starts with one lap of Paignton Green before heading towards Torquay, where the course passes the historic Torre Abbey and the Princess Gardens before the return leg to Paignton begins.

26 to 30 June -  the sound of music - Princess Theatre, Torquay

The popular songs and upbeat atmosphere are sure to provide a fantastic evening of entertainment for all ages.

6 to 16 July - way with words festival - Dartington Hall, Totnes

Dartington hosts The Telegraph Way With Words festival, a vibrant and joyful 10 day event
giving those who read books a chance to meet those who write them.

26 July to 2 September -  art on the english riviera - Cockington

Every year Art on the English Riviera showcases the very best of contemporary art and sculpture
in the beautiful setting of Cockington Court Craft Centre and Country Park. 

The 2012 theme will be Art and Sport on the English Riviera.

29 July - pedal car grand prix - Torre Abbey Meadows, Torquay

Watch the very competitive pedal car teams all striving to win top trophies in this 2 hour endurance race using nothing but their own strength and fitness!

Running alongside this will be an arts and craft fayre, live music, and demonstrations. Plus bar & catering tent.

5 to 7 August - torbay steam fair - Churston Ferrers, Brixham

Torbay Steam Fair is now one of the biggest events on the English Riviera events calendar.

Come and view the wonderful working steam engines, vintage, and classic cars, lorries, military displays, market stalls and so much more. See Birds of Prey and the wonderful Parrot Rescue Society, try your hand at ferret racing or settle down with a wonderful glass of local cider and watch one of the displays that take place in the main ring.

Also don’t forget to take a ride on some of the vintage fairground rides which date back to the early 1900's.

24 to 29 August - torbay week

Torbay Week is fast proving to be one of the most popular regattas on the south coast. Sailors of all classes flock to the English Riviera, ready to pit their wits and skills against each other in exciting races, and the event regularly attracts national and international sailing championships. There are plenty of vantage points around the bay, giving everyone the chance to see seamanship at its best.

Visiting sailors are warmly welcomed into the yacht and sailing clubs at Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and Babbacombe with the clubs providing post-race entertainment throughout the week.

The challenges end with the traditional Passage Race to Dartmouth, ready for the Dartmouth Regatta the following week.

Whether you’re a boating fanatic or a land-lover, there’s as much going on onshore as there is on the waves,
for Torbay Week coincides with the Torbay Royal Regatta.

25 to 29 August - Torbay Royal Regatta

The Torbay Royal Regatta is now in its 199th year! It is one of the most popular events on the English Riviera. While the sailing takes place out to sea during the coinciding Torbay Week championships, the action’s mainly onshore during the regatta. There’s a fun fair on Torquay seafront, a 10K road race, a fabulous firework display and a performance from regatta favourites the Red Arrows. There’s also the West of England rowing championships along the coast.

6 September - heritage open days

Once again English Heritage will be opening their doors for free across Devon to some wonderful
and little seen venues.

9 to 16 September - THE AGATHA CHRISTIE FESTIVAL

Each year, the English Riviera transforms itself into the murder mystery capital of the country,
with ladies and gents in their period finery immersing themselves in tea parties, theatre, dinners on steam trains and vintage bus tours. Why? For the annual Agatha Christie Festival in honour of the Queen of Crime,
who was born in Torquay in 1890.

The festival is a fabulous occasion for fans from all over the world to congregate and celebrate Dame Agatha Christie’s life and times. Round every corner there is a murder mystery: on steam trains, in spooky country inns, and in rambling seaside pubs. You’ll also find competitions, book launches, exclusive events
and even a birthday fireworks display.

The official Agatha Christie Theatre Company perform their latest production at the Princess Theatre -
Murder on the Nile, and Poirot is ever on-hand should there be a case or two to solve.

25 to 29 October - TORBAY FESTIVAL OF POETRY

Over the years, Torbay Festival of Poetry has established itself as one of the friendliest Festivals around.
The whole atmosphere is based round the ethos of good poetry interspersed with sociable breaks when poet meets poet, audience meets poet and audience meets audience. The ambience is relaxing and geared to inspiring everyone, poets and non-poets alike, to enjoy offerings from some of the best poets around: from new talented writers to established and well-known and loved poets.
